3CX Phone System v7.0 Delivers on Mobility Promise

New interface and advanced call rules allow flexible configuration of users’ extensions

London – 8 December 2008 - 3CX (www.3cx.com) the international developer of telecommunications software has announced the roll out of version 7.0 of 3CX Phone System for Windows. The new version comes with a revamped design aimed at making its already user-friendly Management Console and User Interface even easier to work with; whilst effectively delivering more mobility to users by empowering them to configure their own extensions with advanced call handling rules based on caller ID and time of call.

Nick Galea, CEO at 3CX said that these improvements are building on the company’s strategy to deliver a software-based IP PBX that is easy to manage and use. “One of the things we discovered from listening to our customers is that VoIP phone system users want more flexibility in managing their incoming calls. By allowing call rules to be configured based on caller ID, time received and type of call, users can break free from the office and have more mobility. For example, after-hour calls from important customers can be routed to a mobile phone, whereas all other calls can go to voice mail” Galea said; adding that with the new call handling rules also come many added functionalities such as a new management console and a new configuration wizard.

Furthermore, 3CX version 7.0 is an example of better Windows integration in an IP PBX / voip telefooncentrale environment. “By replacing the use of technologies such as Apache and PHP with IIS and .NET, adding support for PBX /ISDN telefooncentrale virtualization in Hyper V, resolving inbound calls to MS Outlook contacts, and incorporating Windows management tools for better monitoring, we are taking a step forward towards further integration of 3CX Phone System with Microsoft Windows”, added Nick Galea.

3CX Phone System for Windows allows businesses to completely break free from the restrictions of expensive hardware-based, proprietary phone systems. It also ships with many other enterprise-level features that help businesses enjoy substantial productivity and efficiency gains.

Key new features of 3CX Phone System for Windows version 7.0

  • Revamped Web Management Console and User Interface
  • Added support for running as a virtual instance in Hyper V
  • New configuration wizard
  • Advanced call forwarding and call queue rules
  • Resolve inbound calls to MS Outlook contacts for Unified Communications

Acunetix Released New Revolutionary Web Application Scanning Technology

Innovative AcuSensor Technology sets new standards in Web Vulnerability Scanning
London, UK, 29 October 2008 – Acunetix (www.acunetix.com), a pioneer on web application security scanning technology, has announced the release of the cutting edge AcuSensor Technology with the launch of version 6.0 of Acunetix Web Vulnerability Scanner, taking web application scanning to a new level.
Acunetix is the first and only Web Vulnerability Scanner to implement this innovative technology.
AcuSensor Technology, a brainchild of Acunetix’ development team, consists of sensors that are strategically placed inside the web application source code and that send information to the web application scanner on how the applications handle the input during a scan.
Robert Abela, Technical Manager at Acunetix said: "Our innovative AcuSensor Technology allows web developers to identify many more vulnerabilities than when using a traditional black box web application scanner. It generates more accurate results whilst generating less false positives. It also provides security experts with more tools, technical data, and many more options for vulnerability tests. AcuSensor Technology helps security specialists do a more precise job."
Other key features available with the latest version of Acunetix Web Vulnerability Scanner (WVS) are the Blind SQL Injector Tool and the Port Scanner and Network Alerts.
The Blind SQL Injector Tool is ideal for penetration testers as it is an automated database data extraction tool that allows further manual testing for SQL Injections; while with the Port Scanner and Network Alerts it is now possible to perform port scans against the web server, so that when open ports are found Acunetix WVS does complex network level security checks against the service that runs on that port.
With this new set of innovative features, Acunetix Web Vulnerability Scanner is now an even stronger tool to prevent sophisticated SQL injection attacks like ones launched earlier this year on the websites of the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the UK’s Civil Service, the United Nations, Yahoo and BusinessWeek, among others.
"Hackers these days can convert any web site that has web application vulnerabilities into a launch site for attacks that install malware on the computers of those who visit them, and that could lead to the theft of sensitive corporate data such as credit card information and customer lists.
These attacks could easily be avoided by using Acunetix Web Vulnerability Scanner," added Abela.
Acunetix Web Vulnerability Scanner ensures website security by automatically checking for SQL injection, Cross site scripting and other vulnerabilities.
It gives security experts access to a specialized cross site scanning tool that allows them to evaluate their web sites for these threats.
Acunetix Web Vulnerability Scanner also scans AJAX and Web 2.0 technologies for vulnerabilities, gives detailed reports that enable businesses to meet legal and regulatory compliances, analyses against Google Hacking Database
(GHDB) and features other advance tools that permit fine tuning of web application security checks.
Acunetix Web Vulnerability Scanner is available in four editions: a Free edition, a Small Business edition, an Enterprise Edition for businesses operating more than one website, and a Consultant Edition.
The Free edition of Acunetix Web Vulnerability Scanner can be downloaded

Mobile WebMessenger includes iPhone Support

That in turn allows them to choose the most appropriate way to communicate. But initially, none of that was possible for workers who were away from their desks, having acne problem, lack of sleep or otherwise. WebMessenger Inc. solved that problem by extending the same capabilities to mobile users with the right handsets. Now it has added iPhone owners to that lucky group.

If your business can't hire this guy, it wants someone just like him — if it can afford him; his price probably just went up after the article was published.

Sintel signs with 3CX

Sintel, the Telecoms and Security market expert, has enriched its portfolio by signing an agreement with 3CX for their IP PBX software developed on Microsoft Windows platform.

In recent years, the IP PBX market has been booming. The advantages of an IP phone system are so obvious that the number of companies equipping themselves with IP PBXs is stupendous. Sales of IP telephone equipment are currently increasing by more than 50% per year. There could be no question of Sintel being a mere bystander in such a growing market.

"The objective was to offer our distribution network a competitive and state-of-the-art enterprise telephony solution. The task was a difficult one because we wanted a high performance solution that would still be very simple to install. Another constraint, and not the least of them in an area where the use of Linux is pervasive, was to find a 100% Windows solution!” (Peter Hammett, Managing Director of Sintel)

3CX Phone System is an IP phone system (IP PBX) developed on Microsoft Windows platform and designed as a complete replacement for the traditional PABX. It has been developed using the SIP standard and is interoperable with most IP telephones, VoIP gateways and operators, both traditional and VoIP (Voice over IP). The connection with the telephone network can be made via VoIP gateways such as VegaStream and/or via a VoIP provider, through the internet.

As for physical deployment, no need for specific phone cabling as communications pass through the computer network using IP telephones or PC soft phones. It is also possible to connect traditional phones using FXS adapters.

For the network administrator, 3CX offers major advantages such as ease of installation even with VoIP gateways, simplicity of deployment (i.e. automatic provisioning of IP phones), straightforward management via its Web interface and great flexibility of its licensing arrangements. It is perfectly adapted to small and medium sized businesses which don’t have the benefit of specialised VoIP knowledge or their own IT staff.

Much more economical than a traditional PABX, 3CX distinguishes itself by the large number of functions available such as integration with MS Exchange Enterprise Edition, centralised management of lines and extensions, voice messaging integrated in the email inbox, IVR, optional remote connection, fax server, call recording, etc. 3CX also meets the needs of companies seeking to increase the mobility of their employees. With 3CX employees on the move are perfectly integrated into the telephony system of the company, in just the same way as desk workers, and have access to the same features wherever they are. And the presence detection function means they are always visible to their colleagues.

"I have to say that 3CX is a really extraordinary solution, which of course offers all the features of the traditional PBX but equally proposes all the IT innovations available. And its main advantage is its simplicity of installation and especially of deployment." (Sylvain Puteaux, Product Manager at Sintel)

The icing on the cake: 3CX is available in a FREE edition – fully functional – allowing companies with limited needs to equip themselves free of charge and to take advantage of the multiple advantages of an IP PBX.

For companies wishing to have all the advanced features, 3CX is available for the price of €375 for 8 simultaneous calls (about 15/20 users), or €795 for 16 simultaneous calls (about 30/40 users), and can go up to €4,600 for 128 simultaneous calls (about 250/400 users).

3CX Phone System for Windows has been specifically developed for the SME market; it is certified for use with Windows 2003 Server and has won several awards including the TMC Labs 2007 Innovation Award, the Windowsnetworking.com Gold Award and the 2007 IT EXPO Best of Show award.

Iotum's Calliflower Conferencing Service Targets Small Businesses

Traditional conference calls can be among the most boring and user-unfriendly experiences in the business world, as they consist mainly of listening, pressing phone keys and trying to be heard. Add a Web interface, though, and a conference call can perk up considerably; moderators and users can set up and join conferences through their browsers, and they can even communicate with each other in different ways besides voice during the conference itself. A new service from iotum Inc. called Calliflower provides a good example of how Web-based conference calling can increase both the usefulness and the ease of use of group phone calls.

London, May 6, 2008 – Acunetix (www.acunetix.com), a pioneer on web application security scanning technology, has announced that the sophisticated SQL injection attacks recently launched on the websites of the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the UK’s Civil Service and the United Nations could have been prevented with the use of Acunetix Web Vulnerability Scanner.

Hackers have attacked hundreds of thousands of web pages from reputable sites with malicious code. This turned the hacked web sites into launch sites for attacks that install malware on the computers of those who visit them.

Furthermore, attacks like the one recently seen on the DHS can convert any web site into an attack weapon directed at unknowing visitors. These attacks could easily be avoided by using Acunetix Web Vulnerability Scanner.

“Acunetix Web Vulnerability Scanner ensures website security by automatically checking for SQL injection, Cross site scripting and other vulnerabilities. It gives security experts access to a specialized cross site scanning tool that allows them to evaluate their web sites for these threats.”

Acunetix Web Vulnerability Scanner also scans AJAX and Web 2.0 technologies for vulnerabilities, gives detailed reports that enable businesses to meet legal and regulatory compliances, analyses against Google Hacking Database (GHDB) and features other advance tools that permit fine tuning of web application security checks.

Acunetix Web Vulnerability Scanner is available in four editions: a Free edition, a Small Business edition, an Enterprise Edition for businesses operating more than one website, and a Consultant Edition.

Aastra also Jumps Into IP-PBX Game

IP-phone vendor introduces Asterisk appliances to sell with its SIP phones.
Many IP-PBX vendors use Aastra Telecom SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) phones as part of the turnkey telephony systems they sell to small businesses. But those vendors often provide other phones in their packages as well, which means they do not offer customers the full range of Aastra phones. Aastra has devised a solution to that problem by developing its own IP PBX to sell with its phones.
he new product, which Aastra is introducing at the Spring 2008 VON.x Conference and Expo in San Jose, Calif., is called AastraLink Pro Model 160. Described as a"fanless appliance" by Astra Telecom executive vice president Yves Laliberte, the new product is built around DSP (digital signal processing) chips and solid-state electronics instead of conventional servers. It uses the Linux operating system and Asterisk call-control software. Aastra added its own user interface on top of the Asterisk program to make Pro Model 160 easier to set up and operate.

The PBX benefits from tight integration with the Aastra phones. A particular advantage is ease of use, according to Laliberte. After opening the box, a card instructs the user to plug a phone into a color-coded port. A few questions appear on the phone's LCD screen, asking for preferred language, time zone, and other features. Then the PBX gives the phone an extension number and it is ready to make calls. When other phones are plugged in, they also get automatic extensions. Wizard-based software allows the administrator to override the default choices and give phones different extension numbers.

3CX’s innovative tunnel makes firewall configuration for remote extensions using VoIP a breeze

London, UK - 20 February 08 – 3CX has announced the release of version 5.1 of 3CX Phone System for Windows. The latest version of the award-winning IP PBX has an integrated 3CX Tunnel which simplifies firewall configuration by channeling all VoIP traffic over a single port; making it easy for remote workers to connect to their company’s PBX and for Network Managers to connect different remote PBX systems between them. Traditionally, firewall configuration for remote SIP / VoIP systems and/or extensions can represent a challenge, because it requires many open ports.

Nick Galea, CEO at 3CX said: “We know how important it is for businesses nowadays to have remote workers and branches seamlessly integrated to their company’s phone system, and the addition of the 3CX Tunnel to 3CX Phone System for Windows facilitates this process.

Key advantages of the 3CX Tunnel:

  • Easy firewall configuration – choose any port (ie. port 80) for seamless networking
  • Remote workers do not need to edit the firewall configuration to be able to connect to the IP PBX from any location (ie. home, hotels, conference centers, airports, etc.)
  • Mobility, productivity and cost-saving advantages for businesses from the integration of remote workers and branches to the company’s phone system

3CX Phone System for Windows allows businesses to completely break free from the restrictions of hardware-based, proprietary phone systems. Built on the open SIP standard, 3CX IP PBX interoperates with all popular SIP phones, VoIP Gateways and VoIP providers.

“The free XSS scanner is giving security officers around the world access to a specialized cross site scanning tool that allows them to evaluate their web sites for the threat of cross site scripting.”

Hackers use Cross Site Scripting (XSS) to embed malicious scripts into a vulnerable dynamic page to deceive the user, executing the script on his/her machine to collect data. The use of XSS can compromise valuable private information, manipulate or steal cookies, create requests that can be taken for those of a valid user, or execute malicious code on the end-user systems. The data is typically formatted as a hyperlink with malicious content that is then distributed on the internet. Cross site scripting vulnerabilities are highly dangerous and there has been a serious increase in the number of the attacks in recent years.

The Free Edition of Acunetix Web Vulnerability Scanner is available at: http://www.acunetix.com/cross-site-scripting/scanner.htm.

The VoIP-News Top 20 VoIP Influencers for 2007

So here, in no particular order, are the people VoIP-News thinks are responsible for the most change in 2007 — either those who caused the most change directly or those who are influencing change in all kinds of ways — including changes that may not be felt in the market for years.

  1. Jeff Pulver: In many ways, Jeff Pulver is responsible for the huge growth and success of VoIP, and every time someone thinks that he is retiring or becoming less of an influence, back he comes for more. Suffice it to say that founding VON; brokering deals; and turning his attention to applications, Internet video and many other projects are all keeping him a primary VoIP influencer.
  2. Thomas Howe: Thomas Howe is less well known than most on this list, but what he's doing is highly significant. He is at the forefront of implementing the kind of change in businesses that VoIP is enabling. Rather than focusing on the technology side, like so many others in VoIP, he focuses on the business and how to effectively use technology. For example, the new way UPS Inc. uses business systems and VoIP — to see if you are going to be home if a package must be signed for — is all thanks to Thomas Howe.
